Pectus Alabama Sweet, Ria

Miniature Schnauzer, black&silver

born 04-02-2003

breeder: Eeva-Liisa and Pertti Lankinen

When Ronja was a little less than 2 years old her breeders asked if we were interested in having a second dog. And a couple of months later little Ria, a miniature schnauzer, came home. From the very beginning it was clear that she would be my dog, and it has been so ever since. She was to be my show dog, and she really enjoys herself in the ring, but we decided to focus more on junior handling than the breed rings. And junior handling turned out to be just what we needed: when our communication started working properly and Ria realized the idea of being in the ring, it was great fun. Now I'm too old to compete, but we still practise showing every now and then and also try other hobbies, like agility. Obedience training is pretty much out of question, because even though Ria knows all the basic commands and obeys very well in daily situations, neither of us have the patience to go further.

When describing Ria, the best word is "sweet" (just like her official name suggests ;)). She wants to make everyone happy, just have fun and relax. Outside the house she is a little lightning, moving super fast from one place to another, keeping up with Ronja remarkably well, but at home she loves lying on the sofa or on someone's lap, and thus has earned her most common nickname, "the couch potato". She is always ready to go out, except when it's raining, but doesn't mind staying at home either. She's actually very cat-like: she gets more attached to places than to people (home is her number one priority), and we shouldn't forget her obsession with cats' toys ;) She is also known to make those lovely "meoww" sounds when anyone of us comes home.

Words can't tell how glad I am to have this little lady in my life. Miniature schnauzer wouldn't probably have been my first choice, but this girl is simply the best dog there can possibly be.
